But, as a matter of objective reality, Trump IS pretty damn stupid. All his life he’s paid other people to do his thinking for him, which is not the same thing as being intelligent in his own right. He does have a form of low animal cunning, which has allowed himself to keep being rich after being born that way. But he proves the adage that a successful con artist (or cult leader) doesn’t need to be smart, merely less of an idiot than the victims of his con games or his cult.
As conservative pundit George F. Will correctly put it: The problem is not that Donald Trump does not know things, nor even that he does not know what all that he does not know. The problem is that Donald Trump does not know what it is to know things!
The “tarpit” is an apt simile – ANYONE approaching the Trump Administration in Washington D.C. would do well to follow the Russian Model as an example of how to succeed in your job. And, by that, I mean, treat Donnie EXACTLY like Lavrentiy Beria treated Joseph Stalin. Beria kept his head down and his mouth closed unless he was heaping effusive praise on his superior. The “Yes, Sir, Right away, Sir!” must be both instantaneous AND heartfelt!
And, yes, there’s a reason I’m suggesting the use of the “Russian” model and, believe me, it’s NOT because I think Donnie resembles either Roosevelt OR Churchill! And, also, by the way, while Beria DID survive Stalin, in the end, he was still executed – sometimes, even being able to survive in politics gives others cause for suspicion!
I’m guessing that he DID see it coming and that his assertions of “I’m not going anywhere” were only to lay the groundwork for making it completely clear who WAS responsible when the eject button was hit.

Yeah, Rexxon, you shouldda seen it coming.
Who do you think selected you as Sec of State?
When you identified him as sanctioning assassination on British soil, what did you think was gonna happen?

Donald Trump isn’t confused by facts. He makes up his own facts to stay on track. Fact checkers rejoice.
