It was not jus them who were intolerant. Their first attempt to sail, their captain took their money, then turned them in to authorities, and got a reward from them as well. England, on the whole, was quite intolerant then. They just wanted to be left in peace. That’s why they left England. This portrayal is a bit unfair

You know, Rush Limbaugh has books based in factual historical accounts that tell the story without the embellishments.

Thanksgiving, as a National Holiday, was declared by Abraham Lincoln.

The Pilgrims didn’t leave “Europe”, they left “England.” They were white, Christian, Englishmen. They were also a repressed religious minority, who wished to live their lives according to their beliefs, and be left in peace.

Yes, they were not farmers, but idealistic shopkeepers. Yes, half of them died each of the first three winters. Notice that they were continually replaced by new Pilgrims, yearning to be free and worship God as they saw fit. Thanksgiving was the celebration the third year after they abandoned socialism for a free market economy, and finally had a bountiful harvest in the fall. Yes, the holiday was declared by President Lincoln during the Civil War in an attempt to build spirits and create national unity through shared stories.

The history behind Thanksgiving may be pretty dicey, but as practiced today, a family gathering for giving thanks for blessings, it’s a darn good holiday! And, yes, I am aware that there are many not so blessed, but a day of reflection can only improve attitudes toward correcting inequities and helping others.

It sure misses the whole point of what they were about. But that’s PC revisionism to make “opponents” always look bad regardless of the good.

And once again, the Left forgets the clear difference between legal and illegal immigration. Why is that such a hard concept to grasp? If you come here illegally, you are a criminal, and deserving of punishment. There is no right for anyone to come to the US. If you follow the law, then welcome. If you don’t, then you deserve jail and deportation. That is why the wall is just. The wall does not affect legal immigration. And, another thing – a law is not racist just because more people of a particular race break that law than of another race. A law is only racist if it is written to only apply to one race. That is how actual racism works.

The existence of the state of Rhode Island is testament enough of how “nice” the Puritans became. Fifteen years after they landed on Plymouth Rock, they drove Roger Williams out of their colony for his ideas.

And a few years later they eventually killed those same saviours.
