Looks like Breen just earned his badge in misogyny.

Here we just call them Scouts Canada. They’ve been completely co-ed since 1992.

Why is treating women (or any set of other human beings) as equals so objectionable?

For some reason we call a mentally ill spoiled trust fund brat “Mr. President” in this country.

. . . as a prior Girl Scout, later a Girl Scout Leader, there are many pro and con reasons to combine troops. Our local Boy Scout troop welcomed my Girl Scout troop on some of their informal camping trips and their “Handicap Awareness” event. Most of theses young children attended the same school, so they knew each other, and it turned out well. Certainly, the approval and involvement of parents is most important for this to work out. :)

There have been co-ed Explorer Posts since before the mid-1960s purge of civil rights activists. Swedish scouting has always been co-ed. What’s the big news?

Mr. Breen, me and my friends read the UT every morning at coffee. While we haven’t all agreed (even with each other) with your political cartoons, we all agreed this morning this is probably your worst/lamest. The general reaction was “Really?!”

Really, people, get beyond the first image and view the WHOLE cartoon – I think little Stevie B is making a valid point! To his mind, the Boy scouts, post-Trump have lost their minds trying to be both inclusively modern and pro trumpian at the same time – of course it’s only little Stevie B that’s lost HIS mind, but that’s only because it’s so SMALL to begin with! Just settle back and enjoy what passes for “irony” in what passes for his mind. Taken in overall ‘context’ his viewpoint CAN be amusing!

Will probably end up just being “scouts”. Oooh, is that so hard.

There will be a point when they just call them “scouts.” And that will be fine with me

I noticed a lot of comments claiming that this cartoon seems to be about misogyny or about discrimination, but I don’t think that’s what the cartoonist was trying to say.

I’m a feminist and I think that this cartoon is about the recent popularity of transgender issues. Ie, “anyone is a female if they identify as one.” Personally I don’t think that dressing or acting in a stereotypically female way makes someone a female. I don’t think that there’s such a thing as a ‘female mind’ and a ‘male mind,’ certainly not in the way that society thinks of what’s ‘feminine’ or ‘masculine.’ So I don’t think that if someone likes to wear dresses and have their hair up in pigtails then that makes them female— assuming this is buying into gender stereotypes, not surpassing them. It’s the opposite of open-mindedness.

I think the point of this cartoon is that a girl has decided that she is a boy and therefore was admitted into the boy scouts— ie, the implication is that ’you’re whatever gender you want to be.’ Should there be scouts for boys and for girls? Maybe not, I’m not against the idea of scouts which includes both genders, and I don’t think the cartoonist is against this either. Notice that he said ‘boy scout’ and not ‘co-ed scouts,’ ie he’s not saying anything about integrated scouts but about a girl in specifically the BOY scouts. I don’t think the point is about integration or about the scouts at all.

I think their point is that being a boy isn’t just something you decide. For example, males are more prone to cardiovascular illnesses, colorblindness, baldness, etc; these risks don’t vanish just because you decide that you’re female. My point is not to discriminate or segregate, quite the opposite: I think males and females differ ONLY in biology, not in their minds. Trying to emphasize the importance of socially-determined gender roles as far as defining gender only reinforces those harmful stereotypes.
