I am sure that if he fails, it will be the school’s fault.

Actual teachers, of course, can spot student BS a mile away.

Yeah Jef, I get the teach is a dinosaur and the kid is superior; it used to be funny the way you had them play off each other. But now you are flogging her with his “superior” wit.

Hmm. Yesterday’s was adroit smalltalk; this one verges on insulting

I hope Mallett is aiming for a major ‘comeuppance’ event where Mrs. Olsen pops Caulfield’s arrogance with newly gained knowledge of tech stuff.

Otherwise, Caulfield will continue to refine his gradual transformation into a common and very ordinary classroom frustration.

The difference between today’s classroom and the one I in which I practiced for the last 3 decades of the 20th is that while students ‘slighted off’ my years of experience and observation as not relevant to their very ‘today’ lives, they were not so arrogant at to parade that disrespect so openly. That arrogance seems to be ’ la mode de rigueur,’ for current classrooms, where even pretended respect is not among the virtues.

FWIT — Assigning book reports is no longer considered ‘good teaching’, simply because of how easy it is to download anything and everything about any book. The new-and-improved methodology is for a student to write personal reflections, reactions, and the like. Perhaps Mallett is showing more of Ms O’s ludditeness. But yes, I agree, I don’t like the outright disrespect we’re seeing in Caulfield in recent times.

Oh, just do the report, Caulfield. We know you already read the book.

I think I’m gonna name my dog “Jetnet”; that way it’ll seem more reasonable when I say he ate my homework.

At this point, the author really needs to update his bio to remove the fact that he’s often praised for his “gentle spirit” because… well, haven’t been seeing it so much of late. Now it’s all about elitism and making fun of the “fat old dinosaurs.”

Now he is underestimating her. Lao Tzu would not approve. He is slumming now. He will crash and burn from that bit of lazy hubris even if he did the report.

“What you don’t know won’t hurt you” has to be one of the dumbest proverbs ever, but “what other people don’t know makes good comedy” is really useful. Maybe. Maybe it’s so obvious that it’s not at all useful as a proverb. I don’t know. Ooh. That hurts.

Caulfield is neither clever nor funny. This strip could use a lot less of him. When one character starts to dominate an ensemble cast, it’s usually not good. Might as well just rename the strip “Caulfield.”
