    Good morning Vagabonds.

Well the weather man blew it yesterday. In stead of clearing skies, it rained off and on most of the day with it heavy at times and very high winds.

Today it is supposed to start clearing up with temp in low 80’s away from the coast and mid 70’s along the coast with some high winds.

Have to do some more shopping this morning and then nothing until church at 4:00 PM.

    Enjoy today everyone.

Good morning, Vagabonds. You may remember that I had pulled everything out of the drawers and closets of my New York bedroom so I could see what I could get rid of. Well, a few days ago, my " (Turkish for “blood brother”) sent me a facebook message asking if I could put up the children of his neighbor who are studying in Ohio for a few days. I was afraid they would return to Istanbul with a message about the chaotic condition of my room, so I began a blitzkrieg clean-up. WAhen they arrived, they saw my stuffed leopard, a poster of a stain glass window Topkapi Palace hung over my brick-glass window with the sun shining through it, popsickle sticks glued together to form an octagon that a neighbor’s child had discarded to the recycle room (in my childhood I had never eaten enough popsickles to do such a project, my book shelves made of plastic and even 1960’s wooden milkcrates with my remaining books (mostly reference books), my wall collages, etc. And they exclaimed, “Your room is neat!”

PS: The " was meant to be “Kan kardes(h)”, blood brother in Turkish. I have known him for 52 years.

    Howdy Vagabonds

It appears to be clearer this morning, there maybe a small fog bank down around the village hard to tell through the trees.

I’m in for a mostly normal Saturday today except a late day Grange rehearsal for degrees.

A quick question in U S history: How many of these United States were republics before they became states? Can you name them?

OK, think about that and I catch y’all tomorrow.

    Good Morning, Vagabonds…

I’m enjoying a quiet sunny Saturday morning in South Florida. In the week after Hurricane Irma, the outdoors was a cacophony of generators & chain saws, with the non-stop noise coming from all directions. When we got power back and the generators ceased running, we still had the sound of the chain saws. I kept the outdoor cat inside for a couple days before the storm, and during the storm (of course). After then storm, when I let her back out, she came running back into the house to get away from the din!

DKRAM asks an interesting history question (I’ll catch the answer tomorrow). :-)

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

Rita, we did the “model tour” together yesterday. We had a lot of fun driving around looking for the various neighborhoods and touring the single-story ones. Some were very impressive (Lennar Homes has a great decorator here) and some were sort of “meh”. I think we had more fun because we shared it rather than me going alone.

Yesterday turned out to be a very nice day. It stayed in the low 70’s, so we stayed outside reading after we got back instead of holing up inside away from the flies. (The flies were relatively dormant in the lower temp.) I don’t know why there are so many flies here, but it sure gets annoying. One got inside yesterday, and Blaze has been trying to catch it. It is the most active I have seen him in a long time.

Today’s forecast is for 75, so it should be another nice day. We’re heading to Dana Point to have lunch and revisit some old memories. We used to rent a sailboat and go sailing out of Dana Point when we lived closer. It was a lot of fun. It is also where we took our diving lessons and our beach dives to get certified in scuba diving.

Did you know that plastic grocery bags are illegal in CA? At the stores, they offer you bags (similar to the bags you might get at a department store – heavier weight than the flimsy grocery bags) for 10 cents each. Either that or you bring your own. I have my own bags, but keep forgetting to bring them inside, so I have them put the groceries back into the cart loose and bag them myself when I get back to the car. I’m NOT paying for grocery bags!

We’re heading out tomorrow. We’ll be on the road for 4 days, so I may not be able to post every day. We will land in Whitney, TX for a few weeks. I, for one, will be glad to leave California.

    Everyone have a blessed day.

    Good morning, Vagabonds,

So good to hear from the Family! Sounds like you did a smashing job on your room, Arye. Even though you had to put everything away, you will find that the next time you need to organize you’ll know just where everything is!

I do enjoy hearing all about Everyone’s adventures. Yep, after Irma, we all assume that things might get back to normal………never thought about the constant noise!

Mark, I know that Texas was a republic, and so was California, I don’t know if there were others. I will wait with baited breath for the answer!

Jan, we also know about the charge for grocery bags in California. Up here, you get 10 cents for each bag you bring, or they will donate it to the local food share!

    xoxoxo Happy Trails.

    Good evening Vagabonds.

Quiet day here in Mid-Mo, the high here was in the mid-8th and by Wednesday we will see Temps drop into the 70hs. Fall is here.

Yesterday the grandkids come here right after school. That is our day for cooking supper together. The youngest (she is 11) chooses the menu and I ensure all the ingredients are here when they get off the bus. She is really paying attention, and works hard to learn all she can. My grandson is also helping and they are both good at working with each other. It makes a lot of fun. Triva: Texas was the only one I knew, so I am also waiting on the answers.

    Jan, safe travels.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

    Good evening, Vagabonds.

It’s late on Saturday, and I’m doing my toon tour now instead of waiting for tomorrow evening.

We did get over to Dana Point today, with a short stop in San Juan Capistrano near the mission. It turned out to be a beautiful day at the marina and we had lunch on an open air patio overlooking the harbor. It was a great drive too. We both love the twisty roads like the Ortega Highway.

We spent some time after we got back packing up the stuff outside, and rearranging the compartments to accommodate everything. Not that there’s all that much new, it just seems to rearrange itself with regularity. By getting all that done today, we won’t be quite as tired when we hit the road in the morning.

Speaking of tired, it is time for me to head to bed. Everyone have a blessed Sunday and I will catch up tomorrow evening.

    Gooood morning Vagabonds

Still dusky but looks like a nice day on the rise, a bid of a fog bank in the valley. Temps in the 80s by noon, channel 3 says anyway.

Lets get right to the answers we seek: There are four states that were sovereign states (not republics)

    1. The first republic fourteenth star, Vermont 1777-1791

    2. The Bear Republic, California for 25 days in 1846 Then was caught up in the Mexican-American War. (see Wikipedia, California Republic)

    3. The Kingdom of Hawaii 1795-1898. (see Wikipedia Kingdom of Hawaii) Note Hawaii is the only place in the US where you can find a Royal Palace.

    4. The Republic of Texas 1836-1846

There are others in a List of historical unrecognized states, Wikipedia Ever hear or the State of Deseret?Deseret (honeybee) founded by the Mormons 1849.

Check it out on Wikipedia, it’s very interesting.

Hay! The sun is shining, nice day ahead, hope you all have a nice day ahead.

    Good morning, Vagabonds,

We had a strange occurrence upon awakening…….there was this bright yellow illuminating our drapes! Bright! No clouds! Sunshine!!! And clear too. You can see clear across the valley to the Elkhorns. Magnificent!

What a neat Grandma you are, Chris! I taught our gang how to cook when they were in their early teens. I even made a “cookbook” for our youngest when he went away to college. He still has it to this day, and actually uses it. Three of our four are great chefs, (one just doesn’t cook…they rely on take out, or simple stuff, or “reheating” or her husband does it. Actually, he’s pretty good.)

We’re planning to run away from home tomorrow. There’s a museum of the Plains Indian up in Great Falls. It closes for the season on Oct. 1st. So, since the smoke is all gone, we figured we’d make a little trip out of it and do some shopping in the bigger city. The Sawtooth Range is particularly beautiful when the smoke is gone, so we’ll spend the night and enjoy a longer trip home.

    xoxo

    Good morning Vagabonds.

Going to be a nice sunny day with temp in low 80’s if true.

I’ll be going out to put most of the garden to bed for the winter. Still have tomatoes growing but the cukes, beans and squash are done for this year.

Glad ever one is in good spirits today. Life is good.

    See you all tomorrow.

    Enjoy the day.
