Have you noticed that the AMPAS people, the ones who hand out the Oscars every year, have increased the number of “best picture” nominees to 10 but quietly reduced the number of “best score” nominees to only 3? There’s been a terrible drought of John Williams-quality movie music lately, and even the customarily reliable James Bond films haven’t been able to keep up. There were more great tunes in The Little Mermaid than in the last decade’s worth of Oscar nominees.
