Was that really some kind of doctrine, even extraoficially? I thought it was just some stupid stickers and t-shirts they used to sell in Soldier of Fortune and some fringe gun magazines.

That was a soldier’s mantra during WW2. It was extremely dangerous to try to capture the Japanese.
