    Sounds like the Lebkuchen my mom would make. (Minus the glue and tar… you can’t have everything.) She told us Lebkuchen meant “Love cooking.” I’ve looked it up and found that’s not one of the accepted interpretations of the name, but it’s the one I like. It smells like it, too.

    Wait until you are older, Petey, and can dunk them in a cup of coffee. That will make all the difference in the world as to how they taste. They will be delicious!

    We dutifully bought several tins of Lebkuchen in Nuremberg last year, mostly as gifts, but I still prefer my great aunt Lillian’s molasses cookies. And fruitcake.
